Some of the Jeddah markets witnessed a state of severe overcrowding by citizens and residents, with the aim of purchasing Eid supplies and clothes, despite the instructions of the responsible authorities to distance themselves to prevent the spread of the Corona virus.
A report published by the “Al-Akhbariya” channel monitored a lineup and a stampede among market leaders, amid the lack of commitment by some to apply precautionary measures such as applying physical spacing and wearing masks to prevent the virus.
A number of citizens criticized the great crowding after citizens and residents flocked to the markets, warning that these actions would cause the spread of Corona infection among shoppers.
In turn, Dr. Manal Al-Harbi, head of the infection control department at King Fahd Hospital in Jeddah, warned of the danger of gatherings and crowded markets amid the absence of a sense of responsibility on the part of some citizens and residents.
In an intervention by Al-Akhbariya, she advised to stay away from prime time shopping with the necessity to adhere to social distancing and wear masks, and to postpone going to the market if the desired thing is not necessary to prevent overcrowding.
She called on everyone not to enter crowded or overcrowded commercial centers, do not apply health precautions, or lack good ventilation, and to inform the concerned authorities about them.
