The Japanese car maker, Toyota, entered the world of self-driving cars after it acquired the autonomous driving unit in the American company, Lift, for passenger transportation services, for $ 500 million.
The company said today (Tuesday) that the acquisition was made by Toyota’s Woven Planet Holdings, which started operations in January and focuses on innovations and investment in projects such as smart cities, robotics and robotic driving.
She indicated that the “Woven Planet” project will include engineers and researchers in transport services, in addition to software assets, sensors and automated driving systems to continue developing the technology.
She pointed out that “Woven Planet” has also signed commercial agreements with “Lyft” to use the “Lyft” system and its fleet data, to accelerate the marketing of technology, indicating that the deal will mean that “Woven Planet” will use Tokyo, Palo Alto, California and London as its sites.
For his part, CEO of “Woven Planet” James Kovner stressed that this deal will help change the shape of the world through transportation technologies that can achieve a happier and safer future for all.
