A fire broke out yesterday in one of the buildings of the Indian Serology Institute (SAI) in the Indian city of Pune, which is one of the largest producers of vaccines in the world and intends to produce one billion doses of Corona vaccines Next year according to its CEO, Adar Bunawala.
The fire started in the afternoon in the Manjari district of the Indian Serology Institute campus, said Fire Department officer Prashant Ranpez, adding that 15 firefighters were on site to fight the fire.
Three people were rescued from the building.
“Our teams are still at the site to make sure that there are no more people stranded,” Ranbez added. “We do not yet know the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage yet.”
The fire did not affect the facility that produces the (Covid-Shield) vaccine against (Covid 19), which obtained an emergency license from the Indian Drug Regulatory Authority, according to what was reported by the New Delhi Television Network (NDTV), quoting sources from the Indian Serology Institute.
